About Matt

Matt Martin brings a lifetime love of music, a passion for creation and innovation and 10 years of experience as a luthier to Root Guitar Works.

Matt is driven by his own sense of artistry, a process that has helped him develop a distinct personal aesthetic that is present in all Root guitars. Matt’s guitars combine time tested design features seen in traditional building along with some unconventional concepts, providing a unique experience in both tone and playability.

Matt lives in Traverse City, Michigan, with his wife Amy, and their three children.

Besides building guitars, Matt enjoys woodworking, camping, and mountain-biking on the extensive trail system behind his Northern Michigan home.
